Self Motivation Techniques For Your Success
Getting your Self Motivation levels up:
There may be situations at times when your motivation levels are low- either at the beginning of taking up a goal or during your journey towards it. You need to motivate yourself, find the reasons and pool the necessary strength to move on.
How do you lift your self motivation levels?
- Don't get overwhelmed by the size of the goal. Split the big goal into many smaller, easier ones. Arrange them in order of priority, time and ease. Straight away start on the first one without delay.
- Don't get into analysis paralysis syndrome. Good planning is essential but too much planning and thinking is not good.
- Don't wait for a perfect plan. There is nothing like a perfect plan. Just act. You can always tweak your plan at various stages of your journey.
- For any act, initial inertia is normally high and needs more energy to overcome it. Once things start rolling, it will be easier. So just start.
- Believe that you are capable. Successful people are not born with the required skills. They are successful with the acquired skills.
- List out all the positive effects of achieving your goal- physical, mental, financial, social. Study each one of them. Your motivation will certainly improve.
- Visualize your goal achievement and its associated benefits.

Creative Visualization for self motivation:
One of the motivational quotes by Bob Richards- 'You are what you think. You are what you go for. You are what you do.'
Such is the power of your mind.
What do you want or what you want to become in life? Visualize it in your mind as if it happened or happening. That is creative visualization.
How do you do it?
It is similar to meditation- focusing your mind.
- Select a place where you will not be disturbed.
- Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
- Breathe slowly and deeply.
- Relax- feel that the tension is going away starting from toe to head, part by part slowly.
- Think of a happy incident that you enjoyed very much. Examples- having nice time with your special person, holding your new born kid in your arms for the first time, enjoying a vacation in your favourite place with your family...
- Create a mental picture of that incident. It is easy to create a mental picture of what already happened- the past. It is the stepping stone for for visualizing the future.
- Practise it as frequently as possible. It takes time to control your thoughts and focus your mind on a single event. This exercise helps in concentration of your mind.
- When you have acquired enough skill, it is time to do the real thing.
- Select one of your easier objectives or goals- You want to reduce your anger? You like to improve your family relations?
- Make a mental picture of having already achieved the goal. Live in those situations which were made possible by realizing your goal.
- Think it as often as possible. You are implanting seeds of your goal. The seeds grow take roots in you mind and make you act in your daily life in such a way that you practically realize your goal.
- Once you make a small goal happen, you get confidence and motivation to try bigger goals.

- Give credit to yourself as you complete a task, even if it is a small one. Each small task is a milestone in the journey to your destination. A small step is part of your long journey.
- What can you learn from this experience? Think of ways of doing better and quicker. Always look out for learning- not only from your own experience but also from others around you.
- Acquiring more skills and knowledge give confidence and boost your self motivation. You are going to add more skills and knowledge on the way.
- Interact more with people with high motivation levels and positive attitudes. Association with the right people do wonders to your attitudes and thinking process.
- Don't stop at an obstacle. It is not a dead end even if it seems so. Break through it or take a deviation to avoid it. A dead end is just an opportunity to take a different direction.
When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal. - Napoleon Hill
- Sometimes your self motivation levels increase when you help others to reach their goals. Remember, you always get back many fold, what you give- good or bad.
- Take a break. Many times things suddenly fall into place and solution to a tough problem springs up during a break.
- Visualize what happens if you don't reach the goal.

Creative Visualization example for self motivation:
What happens if you lack fitness motivation and don't exercise regularly? You will be over-weight and obese, with all the related health problems. Look at yourself in the mirror. Do you like what you see?
Running around doctors and hospitals and stuffing your body with medicines. See how your hard earned money is wasted. Look at the slipping work schedules and depleting credibility and self esteem because of bad health. The troubles and agony that you and your family undergo.
Why all this- just because you are too lazy to spare an hour a day for workout?
