Motivation Factors for Your Self Improvement and Motivation.

Success comes from your self improvement and motivation. Intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation are equally important.

How do you define motivation?

We all seek happiness in our lives. The factors that bring happiness differ from person to person and may change from time to time.

How do you get happiness?

When you accomplish your goals.
The goal may be very small or very big. It may be long term or short term and may be easy or difficult. You need to work on it to reach it. You need daily motivation to start and stick on to your goal till the end.

Motivation is a set of reasons that keeps you working on a goal. Your success depends on your self improvement and motivation.

The important thing here is not to use fear, threat or other similar negative forces. If you take up a task or force others with such negative motivation factors, you will not be sure of the expected results.

Forcing a person is the ultimate weapon. Try to avoid it. There are circumstances when you come across a really stubborn individual and you are forced to use force. But use it as a last resort. However, be careful, such a person can affect the others in the group negatively.

What is required is passion and excitement. They make you committed and keep you going even when things get really tough and makes the task easier too.

Your goals may be related your personal life- your family, profession, friends or social activities you are involved in.

They may be related your work life- your organization, the projects you are working on, the team of people you are leading or the goals you set for your self as an employee, as a team leader or as a manager.

You need to consider your organizational goals also as personal goals to start working on them.

Some people who achieved great success at bigger organizational or professional goals with ease, fail even at a small task like 'exercising'.

The reason? Lack of motivation. It is the main factor which controls and limits your success rate. You might have started with great determination but you tend to neglect it because you concentrate on urgent tasks and slip on important goals.

It is true that daily motivation is not the only factor to achieve a goal- other factors like skills and proper environment are equally important. But if you have desire and passion, it is possible to acquire skills and create the required environment.

There are two motivation factors:

  • Intrinsic motivation- which comes from within.
Example: Self, Family or social commitment, a hobby, moral obligation. One is said to be intrinsically motivated in an activity with no apparent reward except his/her love for that activity itself. For example, if you enjoy solving puzzles or love playing a game, no other rewards are required to motivate you to take up the activity.

  • Extrinsic motivation- which comes from outside.
Example: A monetary reward, appreciation, career advancement. Some of the negative forces like threat, punishment etc. also come under this type.

Generally, but not always, intrinsic motivation is much better, long lasting and produce qualitative results compared to extrinsic motivation.
