Your Body Health Depends On How much Rest It Gets- How?

Rest is essential for the body to be fit. Our body is the most wonderful machine ever designed. It survives for years in spite of abuse, mishandling and zero maintenance.

We stuff it with all sorts of food the tongue likes and subject it to senseless physical activities. We ignore the symptoms and warnings it gives from time to time. In spite of all that, the body survives and serves us.

Take care of your body

It is high time to take some care and listen to its needs and warnings before it breaks down and results in irreparable damage.

The best feature of our body is- it can repair itself, given an opportunity. Give your body some time to repair and recharge- give it some rest.

What is Rest?

Rest is the period of inactivity. There are various forms depending on which faculty of the body is being inactive.

When you stop your normal work and go for a swim or watch TV, you are relaxing mentally but physically you are active.

Similarly, there are activities during which you are mentally active and physically not.

But complete body-rest is what is required to regain the lost energy. Body uses this time for cleansing and repair. There is no energy expenditure and hence no waste generation during this period.

There are some parts of the body which never stop working- heart, lungs, kidneys... But even their activity comes down considerably during complete body-rest.

Complete rest

Sound sleep is considered as complete body-rest, provided you keep the body free of other functions, specially digestion process.

Imagine that you came home at 12 in the night, ate stomach full and slept. But your body was be busy for a few hours after you slept, digesting the food. The digestion time depends on what you ate.

It was not a complete body-rest. By the time your body finished digestion, your sleep was over and you are ready with your normal day. You slept but your body did not. You did not wake up refreshed either.

This is what normally happens with most of us- since we are accustomed to late dinners.

What is complete rest?

You can help your body with early dinner. It is a healthy practice. It is OK if the digestion process extends an hour or two into your sleeping time, but not more. If you can manage to finish your dinner by 6-30 or 7, by the time you go to sleep at 10 or 11, the digestion process is almost over. You body will have plenty of time for cleansing and recharge.
